Three Small Eco-Friendly Tips to Reduce Your Impact

three Small eco-friendly tips to reduce your impact

In the past few years we really have been focusing on reducing our carbon footprint. When researching ways to live more sustainably we became immediately overwhelmed. This is why we recommend starting small and continuously build from there. Making a small conscious effort goes a long way!

Reduce Your Single Use Plastic Items

"I recycle isn't that enough?" This thought may have crossed your mind but unfortunately recycling is just not enough. Conventional mechanical recycling methods such as sorting, grinding, washing, and extrusion can recycle only 15–20 % of all plastic waste. (source)

Reasons to reduce our plastic waste include lowering CO2 emissions, reduces natural resources being used, reduces pollution, less trash in landfills and oceans, lowers the consumption of fossil fuel, helps save animals lives, and helps sustain the environment for our future generations.

Here are some small ways you can reduce your plastic way in your day to day life.
-Reusable silicone sandwich bags
(they have all different size from snack, to sandwich to gallon)
-Reusable water bottles
-Reusable grocery totes
-Glass lunch containers
-Reusable straws

Grocery Shop Mindfully

Farmer’s markets are great places to get local, organic in-season produce. Bring your reusable shopping bags to make sure you are saving plastic waste. Don't feel like going to the store try a grocery delivery service such as Misfits Market or Imperfect Foods. These companies take the produce farmers cannot sell at the grocery store due to minor blemishes, or mislabeled items and sells it to help reduce waste.

Here are a few small things we can change.
-Turn off the water when we brush our teeth
-Turn off the water when you are actively scrubbing dishes
-Make sure when doing laundry you have a full load
-When using the dishwasher make sure it is full before running a cycle
-Purchase and exchange your sink faucets and showerheads for low-flow options
