Five Hikes You Should Do In Reno, NV

five hikes you should do in

reno, nv

A very helpful tool to have to discover hiking trails is an app called AllTrails. It shows over 200,000 trails available and lists details such as length, out and back, loop, dog friendly, and time of year it is best used for. It also provides a rating of the trails such as easy, moderate, and hard so you are very aware of what you are going into. Once you click on the trail you are interested in it allows for you to receive GPS directions in order to get to the start of the trailhead. Don't stop using it there, once you are at the trail open up the app and allow for it to track you as you actively complete the trail as it is easy to get lost on unmarked trails!!

Hunter Creek Trail

Hunter Creek Trail is a 6.4 mile out and back trail located in Reno, Nevada. This dog friendly trail is rated as moderate and the use of sunscreen is a must!! The trail is best used from April until October as snow can cover the trail otherwise. Although you may feel the trail is difficult at the beginning we promise once you make it to the 30-foot waterfall it will all be worth it. The waterfall is shaded and a perfect spot to eat lunch.

Mount Rose Trail

Mount Rose Trail is a hard rated loop located near Incline Village, that is 10.7 miles in total. 10.7 miles may seem like a lot but look at the view once you trek to the top! Totally worth it!!! This trail is difficult so please make sure to purchase a camelback, wear sunscreen, and pack all the snacks. If you want to purchase the ones we have just click the picture and it will link you right to it! This trail is dog and horse friendly and due to snow best used from May until October. Be aware there still may be too much snow in May so pay attention to the weather.

Crystal Mine Peak

Crystal Mine Peak can be accessed from many different directions. We always take the 395 North Bordertown Exit and take Long Valley Road until you reach the entrance for Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest. With many different starting points you can make the trail as long, or short as you wish. Once you make it to Crystal Mine Peak just like the name says..you will be greeted with real crystals. Pay close attention and you will find some unique ones like the Nevada one we found!

Huffaker Hills Trail

Huffaker Hills Trail is an easy 1.8 mile loop trail located in Reno, NV. This trail is great to take your younger kiddos who may not be able to handle a longer trail. This will allow you to have views of Reno and wildflowers without going very far. There are picnic tables, benches, and a gazebo at the top to look over and take in the views of our beautiful city. This is a perfect spot to eat a snack, or pack a lunch.

Damonte Ranch Wetland Loop

Although this Reno trail isn't actually "hiking" and involves a 3.1 easy loop it is still a must. This trail is amazing for offering a walking trail available all year long. The trail follows around the outside of a wetland. The wetland features many wildlife viewing including birds, fish, ducks, and horses. This trail is also a good one to bring your kiddos as it features a picnic area, basketball court, and playground.
